Mrs. McTaggart learned this song as a child. However, it is said to have been written by Helen Lambert, daughter of F.N. Lambert, a well-known merchant who built the Petra Plantation, now known as the Grand Old House restaurant.
The song details the cultivation process of yam, a crop grown by many locals and used in local cuisine as a reliable and hearty starch source.
